Certainly one of my favourite issues to do in Rome is sit at a restaurant on the piazza, sip on a spritz and watch Italians speak to one another. Their fingers transfer simply as shortly as they communicate — a form of conversational dance. I used to be consuming gelato after I realized that a few of these gestures really imply one thing: A brand new good friend twisted their index finger into their cheek whereas saying “che buono!” that means “It’s so good!” I quickly found there’s a gesture for nearly every little thing: being scared, telling somebody to not fear, spaghetti and (in fact), some ruder ones. Whereas I nonetheless battle with the language, studying gestures together with the phrases has made it a little bit extra enjoyable.
